Achrioptera manga – Giant Madagascar Stick Insect

It is a very striking species and relatively easy to keep, suitable for people who already have some experience with stick insects.

They mainly feed on bramble (blackberry leaves), although they can sometimes accept rose, raspberry or eucalyptus. They require humidity around 70–80% and good ventilation to stay healthy.

Unlike some common species, they do not reproduce by parthenogenesis, so both a male and a female are required to obtain fertile eggs.

The eggs usually take between 4 and 6 months to hatch, depending on temperature and humidity. The nymphs will grow through several molts until reaching adulthood in approximately 5–6 months.
