Geographical area: It inhabits the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, southern China, passing through the Malay archipelago to Indonesia
Food: the caterpillars feed well on privet, at any time of the year, and can accept Portuguese Laurel. They require very clean conditions, always with fresh food. Registered alternative food plants include willows, lilacs, apples, plums, ash trees, cherry trees, and the Ailanthus tree of heaven. Attacus caterpillars like to have a variety of food plants at their disposal. The adult butterfly does not feed and lives for a week, all the energy it obtained when it was a caterpillar. The only function of the adult phase is reproduction.
